Well! Cruising is sad to report that Miss Golden Silk Spider has apparently been jilted! Yesterday found her lonely in her web with her male counterpart nowhere to be found.
Querying Dr. Mark LaSalle, Director of the Pascagoula River Audubon Center and entomologist, on the likelihood of her having eaten the fellow, he said it is more likely that he has moved elsewhere.
As Cruising is no expert on the emotions of spiders, we are unable to determine if she is truly lonely as she sits solo in her golden web, or relieved to be rid of her partner. Her appetite does not have appeared to have suffered, as her storage of carefully wrapped food continues to grow. Whether her appetite has increased due to despondency or joy is unknown.
